A Cute Hotel in South Africa

Let’s take a little trip to South Africa.  Specifically Hazy View, which is just outside Kruger National Park.  We stayed in the darling Gecko Lodge and I fell in love immediately.  After browsing their website, it looks like they have done some redecorating, but let me show you the Gecko Lodge we knew.  We were enchanted.
If you remember not too long ago I featured this room when I wrote about bathtubs in the bedroom and promised you a more complete look at our lodgings?  Well here they are.
As I mentioned, bathing in the bedroom was a novelty at the time, but I think I would tire of it quickly.  This was a fairly small room, so no room for a shower – behind that corrugated metal (cool by the way) is the toilet.
There was metal work everywhere.  Look at the first photo and notice the wall art.  Those sconces flanking the desk were so neat.   I loved them!
Here’s a closeup.

Now we were in the “Honeymoon Suite.”  Up those stairs – notice more metal art pieces, backlit to create more unique wall sconces.

They led up to a small outside deck that overlooked metal rooftops.  I love all of the angles & color in this shot.

This big guy lights serves as a porch light at night and greets us at the door to our room.

These wall sculptures hang out in the downstairs in the lobby.

What about this little bench

And although the decor seems to have changed a bit – it’s still charming and I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Sooo… what are the lessons we can take from this?

Unique metal wall art can enrich your patio space, if not your walls.  I was just at the annual Home and Garden Show, and saw lots of possibilities.

These I snapped in a friend’s store…Cup and Saucer

My favorite tray from the dining room table last fall…

Corrugated metal can be used as embellishment or as an architectural structure – a fence, a screen, a wall

What do you think – do you have room for a little corrugated metal (industrial chic) in your home?   A little or a lot it has something for many.

I hope you have great weekend – It’s shaping up to be a beautiful one here!  I hope it is where you are too – Happy Spring.

  1. Hi Cyndi, I loved that you showed photo’s from your trip to South Africa and the decor was very cute. I can imagine getting a little tired of the bath in the room also. Have a lovely week. xD
