A Trip To Carmel By the Sea

Have you ever been to Carmel, California?  That cute little town just south of the famous Pebble Beach Golf Course?
It’s a perfect coastal weekend getaway for those of us in the hot inland valleys of California.  When it was near 100 degrees at home what’s not to love about the ocean breezes and 60 degree weather?
It’s a popular tourist destination so most weekends are pretty busy.  There’s lots of quaint hotels and B&B’s within walking distance to the quaint downtown area.  The weekend we were there most had no vacancies since the area was gearing up for the antique car show later on in the week.  I hear it’s quite the event!

 Love this stained glass detail…
Antique shops abound.

with lots of shopping to be had as well.

Many of the buildings hold true to their spanish roots. and I just love the stucco walls, arched entries adorned with ironwork and Spanish tiling.

Art galleries are everywhere.

Restaurants and eateries are easily found on the main streets as well as tucked back into private little alleys.

Remember, it can get cool on the coast.  I love the special touches of lap robes and blankets.  We sought out the outdoor heaters to sit underneath or beside.

I love this little hobbit house!

I was just enchanted with all of the amazing architecture there.

And on our walk back up from the beach, we came across this little guy sitting in the courtyard of a B&B.  Can you guess what it is?
It hides a speaker!  It was spilling out the tunes, and caught our attention.  Pretty clever – now that’s a unique way to greet visitors – no?

So what are you up to this weekend?  Whatever it is I hope you get out and enjoy the end of summer.

  1. Enjoyed every minute of this and more. There was a blog dedicated to Carmel. Do you know it? If not, I will try to find for you; although she is not blogging anymore. I have to go pin your wonderful show now. Have a nice weekend.

  2. Thanks for the pointer – I’ve been spending some time on her site this morning – I’m sad that she has stopped her blog. She has wonderful pictures.
